Visiting Glasgow

Making the time to do a night in Glasgow to catch up with a few uni friends.

To this day, I’m still amazed by how air travel allows me to be somewhere completely different so quickly. Whether that’s long-haul to Asia-Pacific or simply doing a weekend trip to see friends in Scotland.

With the weekend flight restrictions on London City airport, ended up flying out of Heathrow instead. Made for much earlier start but, surprisingly, got a decent in-flight breakfast from BA for once rather than the usual slop.

Landing early, Epon kindly picked me up. With some time to kill before meeting the others for lunch, we headed across to the Gorbals to check out the Oscar Marzaroli's “Gorbals” photo exhibition.

Whilst there, we came across an outlet version of Greggs which surprised me. Turns out they sell day-old food, which is still perfectly fine, for a steep discount. An offer that Epon couldn’t refuse!

With just enough to spare, we also made it to Simon Murphy’s “Govanhill

Lunch was at the very busy Ka Pao for some Thai food. Although they forgot my main course, it turned out to be a decent meal with the chuu chee curry being my highlight.

Walking off lunch, we took a quick detour though Glasgow Botanic Gardens where we got to see some of the Halloween celebrations. Then, a short drive to check out Epon’s first flat.

To finish off the evening, over to Debbie and Anna’s parents’ home for hot pot. Something that I’ve not had for at least a decade!

Post dinner, revealed my surprise: taking them through the photos I shot of their wedding back in 2004. Shot on 35mm film, I got them scanned for this trip. It was good laugh reliving all the fun and games as well as trip down memory lane recalling friends both past and still current.

Then, back to my hotel for a good night’s sleep before taking my flight back down to London City.

Had hoped to do more on the Sunday but BA moved my flight to much earlier in the day so, unfortunately, wasn’t meant to be.
